An offering of folkloric Argentine music, the chacarera is a dance sometimes played at tango socials. It is a traditional courtship dance, originating in the rural areas of Argentina. Asako arranged this and performs the dazzling violin part! Cally steps away from the double reeds on this track and performs on the traditional drum used for this style of music. Drawing from both versions of Golijov's Tenebrae first movement, (string quartet with soprano and clarinet and string quartet), Cally arranged this version for English horn and string quartet, a project born from a deep affection for the piece. The Argentine composer Golijov's compositions are sometimes influenced by tango. This is a traditional classical offering to close the album. Produced by Cally Banham and Nate Hershey. This arrangement combines Scott Joplin's 1909 habanera with Carlos Gardel's 1935 tango. Cally felt the two songs shared a similar kind of feeling and asked Adam Maness to create a "mash-up" for the Cortango 5 year celebration in 2018. The track opens with a simple statement of Solace played by Cally and Adam, then Cortango comes in and the melodies of the two songs intertwine together in surprising ways!
